Fur Favorites: Dog Food and Treats

Good Day BeauGorgeous! I know it's been a while since I posted about my little dog Kodi... so today we decided it's Fur Favorites Thursday!
Kodi was a sick puppy when we got him from the flea market... you can read the full story here. Since then our vet advised us to get a little bit "picky" when it comes to what we feed him... and yes there was a strict order not to feed him any table food or human food in that case.
... And since Kodi is a huge-picky-fur and doesn't eat pellet dog food... it can get very challenging feeding him... yup, a little diva you can say...
anyhu here are his favorites...

Better Days
Hey BeauGorgeous! feels like I haven't been posting a lot lately. I know I shouldn't make excuses but somehow reality has to be dealt with and that includes getting through some tough times. Well, here's a little update on my little Kodi. It's been a couple of days since he was prescribed to wear the infamous cone of shame and though at first he was kind of having a lot of discomfort walking, sleeping and taking a pee but somehow smart as dogs are he figured how to move around with it and has gotten a little more than comfortable and figured a way how to rub his eyes even with the cone...well, he could be a little bit naughty... so we have to change to a bigger E-collar which is not so much difficult for him to wear anymore since he has gotten used to the small one...and thank gracious he can finally sleep without assisting him too much... bhoy! that was two nights of not being able to sleep just to watch him every time or else he would just be standing the whole night... so I have to help him lie down. And oh, we also have to change his food since he has gotten "smart" on me...figured out that I was putting his meds on it so he doesn't eat  any of it anymore.
So, we decided to try the Sleeky Gourmet Dog Food it comes in different flavors. But we decided to try their Beef, Chicken, Chicken milk and Egg flavor... Kodi loves it so I guess I have to find another way to trick him into taking his pills. By the way, his eye is thankfully getting better although we noticed that the other one is getting blurry as well. We already asked the vet about it and she said as long as it's not swelling and he is not rubbing it, he will be okay... Well, I guess we can't really control aging can we? Anyway, we are happy that Kodi is somehow back on his normal "naughty" self which is a good sign that he is not in pain anymore. So there goes another day of the furmomma... I'd be doing more updates as soon as things are taken care of.

Have a beautiful Tuesday! and remember "Keep your head high, keep your chin up, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about."

Behold the Cone of Shame

Today is the third day since Kodi had his eye infection and we were so worried cause the vet told us he might have glaucoma. Today, we are happy that his infected left eye is no longer swelling. However, we noticed that there's  a dent in the eyeball and it worries us so much. So early this morning we again rushed him to the vet. It was a quick check, she told us that Kodi has an eye ulcer ... We didn't really know whether to be happy ... or there is any difference between an eye ulcer or glaucoma... but somehow it's comforting to know that he will be okay after a month of medication and provided he will not scratch his eye so the vet prescribed that he'd wear the E-collar

.....and behold the CONE of SHAME...

I know it's very uncomfortable for him right now and we are tempted to take it off but the vet gave us strict orders not to take it off for a month or else he will rub his eyes and an eye surgery would be the next option. Well, can't really argue with the vet and besides a little sacrifice is so worth it for a greater good. We are just happy  Kodi is taking it bravely like a little soldier!

A Heartbeat next to Mine

Life has been a little off lately. Off in a way things happened beyond what was expected. But  isn’t life like that… surprises and they come in most precious or sad ways...and I am not usually the one who complains about it...
"Little Miss Sunshine" is what people often call me...and that is so hard to live up to... cause even sun shines have to hide behind dark clouds. But it will always be there no matter what the day is And yes it is okay to be sad sometimes because life isn't all that parade and pompoms. Well, I have been through bad days like this before and one thing I learned... we can't avoid it but we just have to endure till it's over. There is so much weight in my heart right now. I can't seem to bear that my little dog is sick and I have to rely on something I can't control. I know we have gone through this a couple of times before where we have to knock on the vet's door in the middle of the night because Kodi had a serious bronchitis and we have to go back every day for a week to get his bronchitis treatment. He was weak and had to be put inside a glass cage of which is what the vet said an equivalent to a nebulizer for dogs. Then those days were he had to suffer severe shedding due to mange and had to endure a couple of shots. Stomach pains are a regular for him... but somehow we managed to get him appropriate food and make sure that he doesn't get tummy aches as often as he used to. But yes, we had days when he is fine and happy and like most dogs... he wags around jumping on furnitures, barking at strangers, chasing the frogs and the cats and being happy... and my heart smile at the thought of those days where we walk in the park and just sit there watching the afternoon fades into the night...when he crawls into his little pyjamas and rule the bed.... Well, one thing I know... everything will be okay and it's going to be a sunny day...

Felt Like I died That day

Our little Kodi got an eye infection so we had to right away rush him to the vet. And they told us that he may have a serious case of glaucoma and he could go blind. So they have to give him antibiotics and a lot of meds for inflammations and for reducing the pressure in his eye. They told us to wait and observe for a week and if he doesn't respond to his meds then they might have to consider an eye surgery... I felt like I died that day... I got completely lost....so we told then to do whatever they can to save his eye... apparently it includes shaving his face...
first day he had the infection
It is very common for dogs with long fur to get an eye infection especially if the face is exposed to substances that may trigger an allergy or it could also be an inherited condition.
So it is very important to wash their face and use a hypo- allergenic tear stain remover. There could be a lot of factors which causes eye infection so it is very important to look for symptoms of any swelling and to contact the vet as soon as the occurence of the symptoms to prevent any complications.

Well, it's already been two days since he first got the infection and we are thankful that he has been responding well to his medications. Thank gracious for antibiotics. However, we still have to wait for a few days and bring him back to his vet and have his eye checked again.

KODI BAUER LEE
January 8, 2013

Meet my little furkid, Kodi Bauer Lee.... a crossbreed Shih-Pom short for Shih Tzu-Pomeranian. I don't really have any idea when exactly he was born. We kind of rescue him from the flea market. He was a sick little puppy and no one wants to buy and take him home. He was tucked away from the bunch of  healthy little puppies that everyone was adoring.

I don't really believe in love at first sights.... but it sure works on puppies. The first time I laid my eyes on him, I was in love... although there were few hesitations from people around... even from the merchants  not wanting me to buy him since he was already sick.... I was willing to risk everything... in my wallet.... oh for the name of  love... If I don't take him... who will?

The first few weeks at home was very challenging... looking back... it seemed like heart break over and over again.... he was sick all the time and we had to take him to the vet almost every other day.

and yes the best things in life is when you have conquered every heart break, every worst days, every fear... because of love... sounds cliche but true.

Kodi is four years old now and although we don't exactly know when he was born.... we celebrate everyday his woofday.

Kodi's first day at home with Auntie Cheer

well... even puppies have cute-little-egos...
